When a team loses in the playoffs, they are usually forgotten. Not so with the 1983 Chicago White Sox, who had a great season, winning 99 games and the AL West Division title. Behind a talented pitching staff that featured LaMarr Hoyt, Rich Dotson, Britt Burns, and Floyd Bannister (all of whom were 28 years old or younger), the Sox made it difficult for opposing teams to score runs that year.
In the Playoffs against the Baltimore Orioles, the Sox continued to get good pitching, but their bats went silent and they lost in four games. This video, part of a series on that club that was famous for “Winning Ugly”, includes interviews with players from that team as well as footage of that playoff series between the O’s and ChiSox. Check out a young Cal Ripken Jr., in just his second season in the major leagues.
