Ducky, Ozzie & Phat Albert : The St. Louis Cardinals All-Time Team

Greatest Baseball Teams

The Starting Lineup

The first four batters in this lineup are as good as any of the National League All-Time Teams. Starting with pesky switch-hitter Frisch, then perhaps the best righthanded hitter in history (Hornsby), the incomparable Stan The Man, and Phat Albert, maybe the second best righthanded batter in history.

A more powerful lineup could be created if you shift Pujols to DH, Hornsby to second, Mark McGwire to first, and replace Slaughter with Joe Medwick in right field. Then you could go: (1) Musial (2) Hornsby (3) Pujols (4) McGwire (5) Edmonds (6) Medwick (7) Simmons (8) Boyer (9) Ozzie. You clearly sacrifice defense that way, however.
