Karros’s 284 career home runs are the third-highest total among players who never made an All-Star team. The two players who hit more home runs and also did not make the All-Star team were Tim Salmon (299) and Pat Burrell (292).
Karros was Rookie of the Year in 1992, the first of five straight Dodgers who won the award. The others were: Mike Piazza (1993), Raul Mondesi (1994), Hideo Nomo (1995), and Todd Hollandsworth (1996). In spite of that influx of young talent, the Dodgers only managed two playoff appearances from 1992 to 2003, and lost both series.
