Vance was the premier strikeout pitcher of his era. He led the league in K's in each of his first seven full seasons, starting in 1922. This was an era when hitters rarely struck out, and a pitcher who could average four to six strikeouts per game could lead the league. Dazzy won at a .592 clip for Brooklyn from 1922 to 1932, his record was 187-129 for the Robins. In games in which he did not get a decision, the team played at a .476 rate. His career winning percentage above team winning percentage is one of the best in the history of baseball. His winning percentage was 22% better than his team's rate for his career.
