Many news outlets have been claiming that Jose Altuve is either the fifth or sixth batter to hit a walk-off, pennant-winning home run.

In fact, he is the seventh.

Here’s the list, and a link to a more complete article with details:

1951: Bobby Thomson (Giants) vs Dodgers, Polo Grounds in New York

1957: Henry Aaron (Braves) vs. Cardinals, County Stadium in Milwaukee

1976: Chris Chambliss (Yankees) vs. Royals, Yankee Stadium in New York

2003: Aaron Boone (Yankees) vs. Red Sox, Yankee Stadium in New York

2006: Magglio Ordonez (Tigers) vs. A’s, Comerica Park in Detroit

2014: Travis Ishikawa (Giants) vs. Cardinals, AT&T Park in San Francisco

2019: Jose Altuve (Astros) vs. Yankees, Minute Maid Park in Houston

Thomson’s home run came in Game Three of a special three-game playoff for the pennant.

Aaron’s homer came on September 23, about a week before the end of the regular season. It won an extra-inning game and clinched the pennant.

Chambliss hit his HR in Game Five of the AL Championship Series, while Boone hit his in Game Seven. Ordonez hit his in Game Four of the ALCS.

Ishikawa’s pennant-winning blast came in Game Five of the NLCS.

Altuve’s (controversial?) pennant-winning homer came in Game Six of the AL Championship Series. Aaron Boone was manager of the Yankees when Altuve hit the home run that ended the season and pennant-hopes for New York. Boone and Bobby Thomson are the only men who were in uniform for two walk-off homers. Thomson was with the Braves in 1957 when Aaron hit his homer.
