share on:

The marlin is obviously a salt water fish that is found in the waters off the coast of Florida. The expansion Florida Marlins joined the National League in 1993 and chose that name which was used by minor league teams in Miami for a long time.

In 2012, when a new stadium was opened in Miami, the franchise shed the “Florida” and became the Miami Marlins.
