As a boy in Boston, Collins sold peanits outside Walpole Street Grounds, home to the Beaneaters. He grew to be a broad-shouldered, strong ballplayer. He spent much of his career in the midwest with the WHite Sox. He played in the tainted 1919 World Series, but he was not among the crooked players. He spent his final years back in Boston with the Red Sox.
