In Game Six of the 1987 NL Championship Series, with his GIants one win from going to the World Series, Maldonodo misplayed a low, sinking fly ball in right field. The result was a triple and the only run the Cardinals scored in a 1-0 victory. The next day, the Cardinals defeated the Giants to win the pennant.
