In the 1981 All-Star Game in Cleveland, Bell nearly made history. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning, Bell hit a deep flyball to the left field warning track where it was tracked down by Dusty Baker. There had never been a grand slam in the All-Star Game, but Bell, representing the Rangers in the contest, nearly broke that drought. During that game, Bell was cheered wildly by Cleveland fans for his many years as a star there. Earlier he made a fantastic play on a hard-hit grounder at third base.
