Ed Brinkman

Ed BrinkmanA Gold Glove-winning shortstop for the Detroit Tigers from 1971-1974, Eddie Brinkman was the key part of the team’s defensive core and a valuable player despite being practically useless with a bat in his hands. In 1972 when the Tigers won the American League East title, Brinkman finished 9th in the league in MVP voting even though he hit .203 and had a paltry 26 extra-base hits in 156 games. That’s how good he was at playing the shortstop position.
