Willie McCovey

Willie McCoveyThe most famous and best hitter known most for making an out. McCovey lined a shot directly at Yankee second baseman Bobby Richardson in the ninth inning of Game Seven of the 1962 World Series that was caught for the final out. Three feet higher and it would have been a two-run single and won the Series for the Giants. Itís often been misreported that Richardson robbed McCovey of a game-winning hit, but the ball was actually hit right at the Yankee second baseman and he made a routine catch of a screaming liner. McCovey got his first big league hit off Robin Roberts (he had four hits that day off the future Hall of Famer). Then, 21 years later he collected his final hit, a single off Joe Price that scored Jack Clark. Thus his Hall of Fame career spanned vast expanses of baseball history.
