Gil Meche was part of a five-man starting rotation for the Seattle Mariners that went 217 games without missing a turn in 2003-2004. The quintet of Meche, Jamie Moyer, Freddy Garcia, Ryan Franklin, and Joel Pineiro made all 162 starts for the Mariners in 2003 and went eleven times through the rotation in 2004 without any of them missing an assignment. Meche was the one who bowed out, missing his turn on June 7, 2004 due to shoulder soreness. Ultimately the Mariners placed him on the disabled list and Meche missed two months. His turn in the iron clad rotation was taken by rookie Clint Nageotte who was making his first major league start. Nageotte proved worthy to the task, as he pitched six innings of shutout ball in a win over the Astros.
