The 13th overall pick in the 2010 Amateur Draft, Chris Sale was pitching in the major leagues for Chicago just two months later. A gifted power pitcher, Sale struck out danny Valencia of the Minnesota Twins for his first strikeout on August 12. He worked out of the bullpen in his first two seasons before earning a spot in the White Sox rotation in 2012. Sale was an All-Star in 2012, and was one of the young players who helped the ChiSox contend for a playoff spot.
“Itís like facing a closer three times,” Mark Teixeira said of Chris Sale after the righty fanned 13 Yankees in a 2-1 victory in 2012. “The guy throws 95, 96 from a weird angle, heís very tall, has three plus pitches, so itís very difficult to face a guy like that. Thereís a reason why his numbers are so good.”
