Craig Swan

Craig SwanIn the middle of the 1982 season, Craig Swan got into a fight with manager George Bamberger in the parking lot at Shea Stadium. The Mets pitcher and manager tried to diminish the scuffle with a but with humor. When Swan explained that he’d only had two beers prior to the fight, Bamberger said, “Well, then he should have had only one!” Still, the incident was an illustration of Swan’s biggest problem in the big leagues – alcohol. The right-hander always seemed close to breaking out with a big year, but he never quite got there.

In 1978, despite missing two weeks in June and two more in September with an arm injury, Swan led the National League with a 2.43 ERA.
