Jason Varitek is the only catcher in baseball history to catch four no-hitters. He caught no-hitters thrown by Hideo Nomo, Derek Lowe, Clay Buchholz, and Jon Lester, all of them with the Boston Red Sox, from 2001-2008.
Varitek and Alex Rodriguez had a famous fight at Fenway Park in 2004 when the Yankee slugger mouthed off after bing brushed back by a pitch. Rodriguez and Varitek were nearly teammates when Boston acquired ARod from the Texas Rangers the previous offseason, but the deal was voided by the labor union and the Yankees got him instead.
- Seven†switch-hitting catchers have hit at least 100 homers:†Jorge Posada, Ted Simmons, Jason Varitek, Mickey Tettleton, Todd Hundley, Victor Martinez, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
